Boxed Ear Hearken

Hearken is a piece of software for Mac that I’ve been working on with Paul for some time, and I’m happy to say it’s finally released.

It’s recording software. Not a replacement for your DAW, but a helpful tool. It’s main objective is to allow FAST recording.

Picture the scenario, you’re jamming away in the studio and you stumble across some killer chords, a perfect sound on the modular, a riff you’ve been practicing for ages comes out just right, whatever… you need to record it NOW. Hearken is designed for exactly these moments. It sits in the Mac status bar and waits. You trigger recording via hotkeys, which work no matter what you’re doing on your Mac (you might be halfway through composing an email).

You can setup profiles to respond to different hotkeys depending on your recording needs. Recordings are named and saved automatically, so you don’t have to think about anything except hitting record and stop. The focus remains entirely on the music.

Record multitrack or mono, up to 96kHz / 32-bit, WAV, AIFF, MP3, AAC or ALAC. You can also preview, rename, delete and open your recordings in your favourite audio editor directly from Hearken.

Hearken was born out of a need for a fast way to capture jams, ideas and music without getting bogged down by complex software. You won’t find a faster recording app, and that’s a promise!

Head on over to the Hearken webpage to download a demo and try it out yourself.
