Here’s my top 5 current iPhone apps, in no particular order

Comiczeal by bitolithic (£2.39)

As far as I can tell, Comiczeal is the only worthy comic book reader for the iphone. Using the desktop mac/pc application ComicZeal Sync you can convert cbr, cbz, rar, zip, pdf files and even turn a folder full of images into a comic. The application will then sync your comics to the iphone over wifi. It’s pretty painless, although the Sync program will crash occasionally. Reading comics is a joy. I’ve read 3 or 4 full length graphic novels this way.

Guitar Toolkit by Agile Partners (£5.99)

I’m never without my phone. So, I’m never without this app. For half the price of a ‘proper’ guitar tuner, you get a really accurate tuner, a huge chord library, a metronome and a fretboard which shows you various scales.

Twitterfon Pro by naanstudio (£2.99)

For me, the best of the twitter clients. The free version is cool, although it does have adverts and it only allows a single twitter account. I do a little ‘corporate’ twittering as well as my own and the Pro version allows multiple accounts. I like it over the other clients because it’s well laid out, fast to use and looks good.

The Telegraph by Telegraph newspaper (free)

So my wife still reads those big, planet killing, paper things. You get ink all over your hands, you can’t browse the articles in any ordered way, and they mess up the lounge. Pfft. I love the fact that I can read the ‘paper’ on my phone. Guess we’ll have to think of a new name for them eh?

Shazam by Shazam Entertainment (free)

So cool. This is one of those apps that totally impresses people when you show them. Play a snippet of any song into Shazam and it’ll tell you the artist, songname & album, along with links to the song in iTunes or youtube. This app has introduced me to new music on more than a few occasions. Brilliant.

Good Reader by goodiware (£0.69)

OK, I’m going to have to add a sixth. I discovered this shortly after writing my top 5. Good Reader is a PDF reader. The iPhone can already read PDFs but only through Safari and you can’t download them to the phone. Good Reader does away with these limitations and bundles in a bunch of cool features too such as searching, bookmarks and wifi upload. Why is handy for the studio? Well, just upload all your studio manuals and you’ll always have them in your pocket for quick reference.

Let me know if there’s any killer apps I’m missing out on :)
