I run a very minimal studio. I love hardware synths and effects but space, and budgetary restraints stop me from having every synth under the sun – I’m pretty sure that if I could I would! Having said that I think having a few well chosen pieces of equipment can really add value to your songs.

(last updated July 2010)
Hardware Synths
- Kurzweil PC3 (wonderful electric and acoustic pianos and strings.
- Dave Smith Evolver Keyboard (crazy tripped out sequences)
- Studio Electronics ATC1 with all 4 filters (huge solid bass)
- Analogue Systems RS8000 modular synthesizer (wonderful analogue sequences)
- Yamaha FS1r (digital but warm – wonderful pads and leads)
- Yamaha TG33 (lo-fi but strangely appealing plucks and wavetable-ish sounds)
Other hardware
- Handmade UA 1176 stereo compressor clone (does beautiful things to breakbeats!)
- Sequentix PC3 (too much fun for sequencing all my synths)
- Kurzweil Mangler (the modular goes through this for crazy effects)
- Akai APC40 (because Ableton Live isn’t the same without it)
- Akai MPK49 (best affordable midi controller on the market)

The studio looks great and i love the layout of the equipment. It looks professional and is professional. Good luck.
